Nani Vazana brengt met zang, lezing en workshop een ode aan de bijna uitgestorven Ladino-taal en de rijke Sephardische cultuur, met een programma vol verhalen, muziek en verbinding.
Nani Vazana gives an ode to the Ladino language and to Amsterdam
Ladino is an endangered language closely related to Spanish that was spoken in the 15th century by the Jewish population of multi-religious Spain. Today, Ladino is spoken by an estimated fewer than 60,000 people. Nani Vazana is one of only three artists worldwide who write new songs in Ladino. And during this event for the Spirit, she will sing them for you.
In her songs, Nani captures the spirit of the ancient, matriarchal language and propels it into the future with socially pertinent lyrics celebrating migration, gender & female empowerment. If you love hearing stories, discovering new cultures or getting inspired by history and roots digging, this show is for you!
The show is divided into three parts. Make sure to read the ticket instructions below to purchase the right ticket.
First Show: 2:30 PM – Lecture
Nani will play and introduce you to some of the most beloved classical Ladino songs. They talk of wine, love and of course about death and roses… Fairy tales, forbidden love and Sephardic culture will be celebrated.
Second Show: 5:00 PM – Workshop
Traditional songs and new original Ladino songs from her album Ke haber (in Ladino: What’s New). There will be a special treat in this show as Nani will teach the audience a Ladino song that will be sung collectively at the end.
Third Show: 8:00 PM – Concert
Ladino in Mokum show! This show will celebrate Sephardic culture and Ladino music in all its trends and facets. Nani will sing the most beautiful Ladino romances, such as Moreinka & Kuando and El Rey, but also new ORIGINAL songs she wrote in Ladino from her new album, Ke Haber (What’s New).
There will be time for a meet & greet with Nani after all the sessions.
