Stories and Music about Forgotten Goddesses
Together with the artists of the World Opera Lab, the audience embarks on a mystical journey. Forgotten goddesses are rediscovered, and together we discuss the profound meaning of their stories for our time.
Bird Goddess is a goddess whose name we no longer know. Countless small statues of her have been found, from the Indus Valley in India to Syria and Cyprus. Why did we ever forget the stories and songs of these and other goddesses? This performance reconstructs the stories and music of these forgotten goddesses from the Middle East and West Africa, as well as Dutch goddesses like Nehalennia.
Bird Goddess is an intimate musical theater performance in the Vondelkerk and the Luther Museum, featuring music from Morocco, Iraq, Surinam, Nigeria, and the Netherlands.
Bird Goddess is a new production directed by Miranda Lakerveld. With soprano Sabra el Bahri, dancer and singer Vanessa Felter, oud player Haytham Safia and costumes created by Jantine Kraaijeveld.
