Goran Karan is a Croatian vocalist from Split. He specializes in songs influenced by Dalmatian folk music and is known for his powerful and refined tenor voice. Karan’s collaboration with composer Zdenko Runjić led to some of his most acclaimed work, which won him several awards.
In 1995, as a vocal soloist of the group “Big Blue”, he received the award for rock hit of the year with the song “Priznaj mi”. In the same year, he got the main role in the musical “Sarajevo Circle”. The album “Sarajevski krug”, as well as the debut of the group “Big Blue”, were released in Croatian and English, with many concerts in Austria, Germany, Italy, France and three guest appearances in the United States.
At the beginning of 1997, Goran started his solo career, and in 1998 he won the “Zadar-fest” with the song “Kazna mi je sto te ljubim”. At the end of 1998, in Vienna, he performed in the lead male role in the musical “Rock It” in the theater “Ronacher” in a Viennese production consisting of eight of the most popular musicals from the late 60s onwards: “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Grease”, “Hair ”, “Tommy”, etc.
In 1999, Goran releases his first solo album, “Kao da te ne volim”, which is the result of collaboration with the famous Split composer Zdenko Runjić. The album was the best-selling album in Croatia that year and achieved platinum circulation. In the same year, he wins the most prestigious Croatian festival “Melodies of the Croatian Adriatic” with Runjić’s song “Window by the Yard”.
In the “Slobodna Dalmacija” poll, he was declared “Singer of the Year”, as well as in the selection and voting of numerous other newspapers and radio stations in Croatia.
The song “Lipa si, lipa” won at the “Hit summer” festival in Pula.
Goran has had a number of important concerts so far. He performed eight times with the “Sarajevo Circle” in the “Vatroslav Lisinski” Concert Hall in Zagreb, twice in the “Posthof” in Linz and in the “Theater an der Wien” in Vienna.
