Carlos Marín Rayo is a Spanish pianist described by specialized press as a “rising talent” (Scherzo, José Antonio Cantón) and a musician of “powerful technic, refined musicality and surprising musical maturity” (Mundo Clásico, Roberto San Juan). He is currently studying under the guidance of Frank van de Laar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Previously, his main mentors have been Mariana, Nino Kereselidze and Graham Jackson. He has often received advice from Joaquín Soriano and Noelia Fernández Rodiles. He also studies performance on historical keyboards with Olga Pashchenko.
At 11 he received the first prize at the Hazen-Arturo Soria Competition and has been since awarded in many occasions, amongst them, first prizes at the “Ciudad de Albacete – Jeunesses Musicales” (2016) competition, “Euterpe International Piano Competition” (2016) in Corato (Italy) and the “Marisa Montiel – Ciudad de Linares” competition (2018). He was awarded the 2nd prize, as well as the audience prize and several special prizes at the prestigious Young Pianist Foundation Competition in Amsterdam (2019). He won the 3rd prize in the YPF European Competition in Amsterdam (2022).
He recently performed together with legendary artist Maria Joao Pires in two concerts at the Belgais Center for the Arts. He has performed in some of Spain’s most important venues, such as Auditorio Nacional, Teatros del Canal and Fundación Juan March in Madrid, Palau de la Música in Valencia, Rafael Orozco Festival in Córdoba, Fundación Botín in Santander, Auditorio Miguel Delibes in Valladolid, Auditorio Ciudad de León, Festival de Segovia, Contemporary Music Festival of Tres Cantos, etc. Additionally, he has performed in major venues of countries like Portugal (Teatro Sao Carlos, Centro Cultural de Belem), The Netherlands (Muziekgebauw in Amsterdam and De Doelen in Rotterdam), Great Britain, Austria, Switezerland, Germany, Serbia, Italy, the United States, Australia, etc.
As a soloist, he has played concerti by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, Saint-Saens, Shostakovich, Stravinsky and more, with ensembles such as the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería, Conservatorium van Amsterdam Orchestra, Joven Orquesta de Córdoba (he was invited for the first concert of the orchestra), Camerata Eutherpe, Concerto Moderno, Joven Orquesta Leonesa, Joven Orquesta Mediterránea, under the baton of maestros like Michael Thomas, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Antony Hermus and Cesar Viana. He has recorded for TVE, RNE and many local networks.
He has also received ocassional lessons and seminars with maestros Enrico Pace, Ramón Coll, Eldar Nebolsin, Frank Wibbaut, Alexander Kandelaki, Claudio Martínez Mehner, Ana Guijarro, Joshua Edelman, Marta Zabaleta, Inocencio Javier Negrín, María Zisi and Bruno Vlahek.
