The Neyma Saxophone Quartet is a newly formed ensemble based in Amsterdam, founded in 2024. Comprising talented musicians who study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the guidance of renowned professors Arno Bornkamp and Willem van Merwijk, the quartet showcases a deep understanding of chamber music. Their playing is defined by a refined musical dialogue, a strong collective sensibility, and a dynamic approach to repertoire, making them an exciting new presence in the saxophone quartet scene.
Soprano Saxophone
Doron Hazan, (b. 2003), began his musical studies with Gersh Geller and Boris Gamer at the Hassadna Conservatory in Jerusalem. He later studied with Jean-Denis Michat at the Lyon Conservatory and is currently a student of Arno Bornkamp at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Doron has won first prizes in competitions across ten countries, including Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United States.
Alto Saxophone
Daniel Escaño Franco began playing the saxophone at the age of 7, and at 8 he started studying at the Conservatory of Cartagena (Spain). At 12, he began taking lessons with conductor and saxophonist Jaime Belda, who awakened his passion for music and inspired him to pursue it in a professional and passionate way. He is currently studying for his bachelor’s degree with the renowned saxophonist Arno Borkamp in Amsterdam and has performed with various orchestras and concert bands.
Tenor Saxophone
Guilherme Sousa, a Portuguese saxophonist, is currently studying with Arno Bornkamp at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Winner of several international competitions, including the Antena 2 Prémio Jovens Músicos (2025), he has performed at venues such as the Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw, Gulbenkian, and Casa da Música, and appeared at the Grachtenfestival 2025 as a soloist and in duo with his brother, clarinetist Filipe Sousa.
Baritone Saxophone
André Capela, (b. 2005), from Lisbon, Portugal, began his musical journey at the age of 8 with Orquestra Geração, where he had his first contact with music. He later pursued his studies at the Escola Profissional Metropolitana, refining his skills under the guidance of João Pedro Silva. Currently, he is completing his Bachelor’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, further developing his artistry and passion for the saxophone and chamber music.
