Elke eerste dinsdag van de maand treden studenten van het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Ontdek nieuw talent als eerste in deze serie van Stadsherstel en het Conservatorium.

Duo Eós brings together violinist Hyunjin Cho and cellist Efstratia Chaloulakou in a musical partnership that bridges continents and traditions. The two musicians met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where both are completing their master’s degrees, and have since been performing violin and cello repertoire across the Netherlands.

South Korean violinist Hyunjin Cho was born and raised in Japan, where she graduated from Tokyo’s Toho Gakuen School of Music. She has won prizes at the Japan Classical Music Competition and Osaka International Music Competition, performed at Carnegie Hall and La Folle Journée au Japon, and appeared as soloist with members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Supported by the Munetsugu Angel Fund Scholarship, she now studies with Tjeerd Top and Peter Brunt in Amsterdam and performs on a 1732 Italian violin by Gregorio Antoniazzi.

Greek cellist Efstratia Chaloulakou holds degrees cum laude from the University of Macedonia and the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, where she studied with Dimitris Patras. Former principal cellist of the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra and an intern with the Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest, she is passionate about both chamber music and contemporary repertoire. She has performed throughout Europe, participated in the 2024 Cello Biënnale Competition, and currently studies with Ella van Poucke at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

The duo takes its name from Eós, the Greek goddess of dawn—a symbol of new beginnings and the meeting point of different worlds. This reflects the ensemble’s identity: Greek and Japanese musical traditions coming together, two cultures finding harmony through the intimate dialogue of violin and cello. In both Greece and Japan, dawn holds cultural significance as a moment of renewal and possibility, making it a fitting symbol for this cross-cultural collaboration.

Through their diverse backgrounds and shared commitment to chamber music, Duo Eós brings fresh perspective and energy to the string duo repertoire.
