The building
Neo-Gothic architecture
The Posthoornkerk was the first building in Amsterdam designed by the famous Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers, who went on to design Central Station, the Vondelkerk and the Rijksmuseum. The neo-Gothic interior has a magical atmosphere thanks to two galleries, one above the other, the use of different colours of brick, and the beautiful light through the stained glass windows. It’s perfect for a romantic wedding or a classical concert.
Restoring the city
Choose heritage
By choosing one of Stadsherstel’s venues, you contribute to the restoration of the city and the conservation of cultural heritage. In the 1970s, the Posthoornkerk was nearly demolished. However, people in the neighbourhood set up the Posthoornkerk Foundation, and managed to save the church by proposing that it should be repurposed. Stadsherstel became involved and helped to completely restore and repurpose this heritage building.
The double galleries, the sunlight through the stained glass windows, the brick vaulting… this is the perfect place to pick up antiques.
A beautiful church and a great idea to be able to study here, because in a church people tend to keep quiet, unlike in other places. A mark out of ten? A 1000!
