Red Events & Distribution Ltd presenteert een bijzonder concert in de historische Posthoornkerk in Amsterdam: Stabat Mater van Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, uitgevoerd door het internationaal gerenommeerde Belgische ensemble La Chapelle Sauvage onder leiding van Karel De Wilde. Als solisten zijn de in Londen gevestigde sopraan Abigail Barker en countertenor Gleb Zakharov te horen.
Pergolesi schreef Stabat Mater in de laatste weken van zijn leven. Het werk ging pas na zijn dood in première en wordt al lange tijd beschouwd als een van de mooiste composities uit de barok. De emotionele zeggingskracht overstijgt tijd, geloof en genre.
Deze hymne vol verdriet en hemelse schoonheid inspireerde componisten van Bach tot Vivaldi en werd vertolkt door grote namen als Montserrat Caballé, Barbara Hendricks, Cecilia Bartoli, Renée Fleming, Philippe Jaroussky, Nathalie Stutzmann en Andreas Scholl. Hun uitvoeringen hebben er mede aan bijgedragen dat Pergolesi’s meesterwerk wereldwijd grote bekendheid en waardering geniet.
Dit bijzondere concert biedt een zeldzame kans om drie delen uit Pergolesi’s meesterwerk te horen zoals ze in zijn eigen tijd geklonken zouden hebben: uitgevoerd in een historische kerk en in een lagere, warmere stemming, die de muziek een donkerdere en fluweelachtige klank geeft.
