The Conical Brass Quintet was established in 2024 within the academic environment of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, bringing together musicians from Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The ensemble was conceived to fully explore and expand the artistic potential of the brass quintet format. True to its name, all the instruments in the group feature conical bores. Instead of traditional trumpets, the quintet employs cornets or flugelhorns, while the trombone is replaced by a euphonium. This approach creates a distinctive timbre, allowing the sound of each instrument to blend seamlessly and harmoniously. The result is a unique and captivating auditory experience. This innovative approach has enabled the ensemble to explore new repertoire and deliver fresh, nuanced interpretations of renowned pieces for this formation. Although the group was formed only a few months ago, they have already performed several highly successful concerts, receiving enthusiastic responses from the audience. The components of the group are:
Gerardo Gianolio, Carlo Caravaggi (cornets), Ibai de Miguel (euphonium), José Nuno Días (horn) and Samuel Hernández (tuba).
