Een concertavond waarbij 50 jong getalenteerde gitaristen een uniek programma spelen: Studenten Gitaar Ensemble Nederland meets Jugend-Gitarrenorchester Baden-Württemberg.
As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, the Studenten Gitaar Ensemble Nederland will be meeting the Jugend-Gitarrenorchester Baden-Württemberg, which is starting the year with a concert tour to the Netherlands. Both orchestras are made up of young guitarists from all over Germany and the Netherlands. Under the direction of conductors Susana Opanski, Helmut Oesterreich and Christian Wernicke, the two orchestras will perform the best works of guitar and orchestral music from the Renaissance to the contemporary era offering a challenging and diverse programme including works by Albéniz, Teleman and Mozart.
Since its foundation in 1991, the JGO has brought together young and talented guitarists from all over Germany, often laureates of national and international music competitions. During the past 33 years, the orchestra has developed an extensive repertoire including original works and transcriptions from all musical epochs. The repertoire also focuses on contemporary compositions of which many were written especially for the JGO, most recently by Erika Vega. The orchestra’s most important milestones include concert tours to Mexico in 2022 and Argentina in 2019. Collaborations with other orchestras, soloists and guest conductors such as Leo Brouwer, Olaf Van Gonnissen or Peppino D’ Agostino complete these musical highlights. In November 2022, the JGO also won the first prize at the “German Guitar Orchestra Competition” in Trossingen.
The Studenten Gitaar Ensemble Nederland is a music initiative that offers an opportunity for (former) students from all over the Netherlands who play classical guitar to make music together. Founded in 2014, the ensemble represents a unique group of talented musicians with an extensive repertoire: from classical to modern times and from Spanish Flamenco to Argentinian Tango. The ensemble offers a truly exceptional formula that also accommodates chamber music. All facets of guitar playing are thus incorporated and regularly presented. Besides many performances in the Netherlands, the Ensemble has been invited to several festivals in Spain, Italy and Germany and has also recently released a new CD featuring music from the 20th and 21st centuries including pieces by Philip Glass, Béla Bartók and Astor Piazzolla as well as a collaboration with the Elias/Cordas duo as soloists.
The JGO concert tour is generously sponsored by the Goethe Institute, the Landesmusikrat Baden-Württemberg and Stayokay Hostels.
